Beauty Resolution

Baby, it’s cold outside…

Winter seemed to arrive late this year but it definitely has arrived. Harsh weather and having the heat on indoors can leave your skin extremely dry. This time of year also brings germs and flu season so frequent hand washing can leave your hands chapped and cracking. We are frequently asked how one can achieve soft and smooth skin during the harsh winter months. Here are our suggestions and product recommendations…

My Dry Hands
We recommend using our Shea Butter Lotions when you’re out and about. Our 4 oz bottles fit nicely in your purse. Apply frequently, especially after coming in from outside. The 8 oz lotion with the pump is also great to keep at your desk at work, although we warn you- in that case you will be asked to share.
For extremely dry skin use our Therapeutic Hand and Body Cream with Shea Butter. Since you will probably be washing your hands frequently during the day- try using moisture enhancing gloves while you sleep at night. Apply the cream and then put your gloves on before you fall asleep.
Tip: Layla’s Shea Butter Hand and Body Cream is great for your nails, apply to the cuticle for strength.

Itchy Dry Skin
Many times when your skin on your body is dry you will feel very itchy. Regular soap can be very drying so try using our Coconut Milk Glycerin Soap. This soap will attract extra moisture to your skin. We also recommend using our Pineapple Kiwi Body Scrub in the shower a few times a week. You will be exfoliating dead skin away while moisturizing your skin. (Plus it smells and feels great!) When you get out of the shower pat dry your skin and apply Layla’s Shea Butter Hand & Body Cream while your skin is still moist.

Extra Tips:

  • Avoid long hot showers.
  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day.
  • Regulate the air quality in your home so the air is not so dry.
  • For your face-moisturize frequently with the appropriate facial product and avoid using harsh scrubs or masks especially if breakouts are the result of dry skin.

As we always say- we offer NO overnight solutions. Instead we recommend creating a commitment to taking care of your skin. Our products contain tropical scents to make this process more enjoyable and relaxing. Create your own spa this winter with Layla Coco.

We asked you to send in your beauty resolutions for 2007 and here’s what some of you had to say!

Christa M. from VT:
“My beauty resolution is to take the time to care of my skin. I spend so much time taking care of my family that I hardly have any “me” time. This year I’m going to take time out to find good quality skin care products and who knows, maybe I’ll even spend the day at a spa!”

Anna L. from FL:
“This year I’m going to give myself a complete beauty makeover. I have looked the same and had the same hair style and color for the past 5 years. I’m going to cut my hair, change the color, buy new clothes and get new glasses. I hope to look like a new woman by spring time.”

Katie M. from MA:
“I’m going to change my style completely in 2007. I’m going to buy new clothes each season and throw out all the stuff that I never wear and shouldn’t be wearing. I’m cleaning out my closet!”

Elena R. from MA:
“My beauty resolution is to take of my skin better. I started using Layla Coco products at the end of last year and I noticed a difference in my skin immediately. I had very dry and even chapped skin and now after consistently using the shea butter cream I’m not embarrassed to let my boyfriend rub my legs! They feel smooth and soft and I want to make sure I take the time to moisturize this year because I know it doesn’t happen for me naturally. Cheers!”

Baby Baby Baby

This month our Beauty Tips are inspired by all things baby. Our tips will not discriminate- read on for tips for expecting moms, new moms and friends of moms!

Stretch Marks

When you're expecting a baby there a million things to worry about- your health, the baby, finances, making a nursery for the baby... And then there are personal and cosmetic concerns. For some pregnant women their skin is glowing, their hair is thicker than ever and they feel beautiful. For other women the opposite can happen. We believe taking a few minutes each day to take care of your skin can make a world of difference. Taking care of your physical health is so important during pregnancy and a little pampering can be good for your mental health as well. Our tropical scents are meant to promote relaxation. Instructions: open a jar, close your eyes and think beach. To assist with stretch mark prevention and dry skin during pregnancy use Layla Coco's Shea Butter Therapeutic Cream. Massage the cream into trouble areas such as your belly, thighs, breasts and your behind. Keep in mind that no matter what people tell you there is no product that can guarantee prevention or get rid of stretch marks, but our cream gives you a chance of making them less prevalent. Use the cream at least twice a day for best results. Click here for more information.

New Babies

Your baby's skin is delicate and sensitive. Our best advice is to buy a few trial size bottles of baby lotion and test them out to see which one works best before buying the regular sizes. You don't want to waste money on things that you'll never use so don't go too crazy before the baby arrives. When buying lotion for newborns look for baby products without fragrance. For diaper rashes and very dry skin we recommend Aquaphor all the way. You can buy Aquaphor at your local drug store. Always check with your pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns.

Friends of Moms

We created our Baby Mama gift set because we saw a need for pampering gift sets for new and expecting moms. The gift set comes with some great pampering lotions body scrub, comfy slippers and it also includes a diaper bag. Not your traditional giant diaper bag (which is essential as well) but a small “quick trip” bag. The bag is stylish and can amazingly fit all the essentials one needs. The bag was created by BabyDish™ and is a big hit with new Hollywood moms. The Baby Mama gift set is a great gift for baby showers or once the baby is born. Click here for more information on our gifts.

Our message to pregnant women this month is take time to feel beautiful.

Fall Skin Makeover

As the Fall Season approaches so does new fashion trends and styles. No matter where you live and what the weather change may be like in your city, society uses Fall as a rejuvenation month. Our magazines tell us to give ourselves a Fall Makeover with new makeup, wardrobe and hair styles. It’s a time for change.

Does your skin need a makeover at this time of year? Most definitely! The weather is changing and with that change your skin changes. Some of us did damage to our skin over the summer with too much sun exposure and some of us are struggling to keep that summer glow. Either way we have some quick and easy solutions to getting your skin ready for the change of season.

Drink lots of water. We hear this sentence a lot in the summer when it’s hot outside. Keep it up through the Fall and Winter. Drinking water hydrates our body and skin. Water is a great anti-aging product. Hydrated skin leads to less wrinkles.

Exfoliate, still. Exfoliate with our Pineapple Kiwi Body Scrub. Our body scrub is gentle and moisturizing. Avoid harsh scrubs during the Fall and Winter months especially. It’s important to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells but you want to be gentle with your skin.

Moisturize. Wind and colder weather can make your skin dry. We suggest using our Shea Butter Body Lotion in the Fall and then the Shea Butter Therapeutic Cream throughout the winter. (For those of you with very dry skin, always go for the cream.)

While the colder months approach us and we say goodbye to summer we encourage you to continue to use our products. The tropical scents will bring you back to the beach and even if it’s just for a few minutes a day, you will feel like you are still on vacation.

Why We Love Shea Butter…

When creating the Layla Coco line, we decided to choose the best ingredients that we could find to benefit our customers’ skin. The choice to feature Shea Butter in most of our products was very easy. Shea Butter restores and protects your skin by aiding in cell regeneration. It’s favored by many consumers because it normally doesn’t trigger allergic reactions. It can help prevent certain sun allergies and natural Shea Butter can also help to heal wounds and scars. Shea Butter has also been known to help many with eczema, extremely dry and chapped skin and even with dry and brittle hair. Anti-aging, stretch mark prevention- we could go on and on. We love our Shea Butter at Layla Coco.

Our Shea Butter Hand and Body Cream is a great moisturizer especially for trouble areas like the bottom of your feet, elbows and knees. The best part about this cream is that it’s not greasy and it absorbs easily. There’s nothing like putting cream on your legs and then not being able to put your pants on because you’re so sticky (we hate that.) We’ve scented our products with the tropical scents of Coconut, Coco Mango and Pineapple Kiwi. Click here for more information.

Also try our Shea Butter Body Lotion and the Shea Butter Soap with sugar cane.

Summer Beauty Tips from the Beauty Experts at Layla Coco...

Finally summer is here and we can enjoy the warm weather! While enjoying the nice weather, backyard barbeques and the beach don't forget to protect your skin from the sun. This reminder goes out to people from all backgrounds- men, women, white, black and everything in between. Not only is sun exposure dangerous for our skin it can also speed up the aging process for our skin for the present and future.

Tips to protecting your skin:

  • Wear sunscreen, use it generously and don't forget to reapply throughout the day.
  • Watch out when you go on vacation- changes in altitude and your environment might change the way your skin reacts to sunscreen. Use the highest SPF you can find while on vacation.
  • Be aware that water, sand and concrete reflect the sun and can increase your chance of sunburn.
  • Try staying out of the sun during peak hours (10am and 4pm) and wear protective clothing.
  • Protect los ninos! Babies under 6 months should stay out of the sun completely. Make sure you put plenty of sunscreen on babies and kids who are in the sun. Don't let a mistake you make now lead to problems for them later on in life.

Golden Days

So the question is how do you achieve that glow that you love? Use self-tanner of course. The answer may seem simple, but here are some tips to making that self-tanning experience perfecto.

  • Exfoliate first and often. Exfoliate your skin before applying self-tanner and then once a week thereafter. We recommend Layla Coco's Pineapple Kiwi Body Scrub with shea butter, sugar and honey. (www.laylacoco.com)
  • Moisturize! Even when using the gradual tan enhancers you should still moisturize your skin daily to keep your skin soft, smooth and even. We recommend Layla Coco's Shea Butter Body Lotion for the summer. (www.laylacoco.com).
  • Finish off your glow with some shimmering bronzer on your face. We recommend using Debra Macki's Cheeky products to achieve a natural sun kissed shimmer. (www.debramacki.com)
